No século XXIII a nave estelar Enterprise, comandada pelo Capitão James T. Kirk (William Shatner), vai audaciosamente onde nenhum homem jamais esteve em busca de novas vidas, novas civilizações. Auxiliando o Capitão em suas decisões de comando estão o lógico Oficial de Ciências vulcano Sr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy), e o impulsivo e extremamente humano Dr. Leonard McCoy (DeForest Kelley).

“Espaço, a Fronteira Final. Estas são as viagens da nave estelar Enterprise, em sua missão de 5 anos...” Por três temporadas a partir de 1966, a narração de William Shatner introduzia as aventuras semanais da nave da Federação dos Planetas Unidos Enterprise, na série original concebida por Gene Roddenberry que, de lá para cá, deu origem a dez filmes para o cinema e mais quatro séries de TV derivadas (sem contar uma série em animação). Apesar de nunca ter sido considerada um sucesso na época de sua exibição, e mesmo com orçamentos baixos, Jornada nas Estrelas foi um marco para a televisão, um verdadeiro clássico que, mesmo depois de seu cancelamento, através das reprises, continuou conquistando uma legião de fãs ao redor do mundo. Aqui no Brasil, a Série Original foi a mais exibida e, dentre todas as produções da franquia, continua sendo a mais popular.

Revendo agora as três temporadas em DVD, as razões de tal perenidade são evidentes: em que pesem os efeitos especiais canhestros e cenários e figurinos de segunda, a série extrai sua força basicamente da empatia e sintonia do trio de personagens principais, e de ótimos roteiros criados por profissionais como David Gerrold, Harlan Ellison e Dorothy (D. C.) Fontana. Dando uma rápida passada nos 79 episódios da série, encontramos não algumas, mas várias pérolas: "O Ardil Corbomite", "A Coleção" (o único episódio em duas partes da série, no qual foi aproveitado praticamente todo o primeiro episódio piloto, "The Cage", estrelado por Jeffrey Hunter e nunca exibido na íntegra), "O Equilíbrio do Terror" (surgem os romulanos!), "Semente do Espaço" (Khan!), aquele que é considerado o melhor episódio da série, o ganhador do Prêmio Hugo "A Cidade à Beira da Eternidade" (nos EUA da época da Depressão Kirk apaixona-se por uma pacifista e, ao salvá-la da morte, muda o futuro da Terra), "Tempo de Loucura" (Pon-Farr!), "Máquina da Destruição", e por aí vai. A terceira temporada, produzida apenas após uma campanha dos fãs, que entupiram a produtora Desilu de cartas, é considerada a mais fraca. Isto porque Roddenberry, após ver a série ser colocada num dia e horário ruins (sextas às 22h), afastou-se em busca de novos projetos e deixou de supervisionar pessoalmente os roteiros. Como resultado, vieram episódios como "O Cérebro de Spock" e "Caminho para o Éden", execrados pelos fãs - mas ainda assim, divertidos. Contudo, mesmo com roteiros de padrão inferior, se comparados aos das duas temporadas anteriores, e com orçamentos cada vez mais reduzidos, em seu último ano Jornada nas Estrelas também trouxe episódios memoráveis como "O Incidente Enterprise", "Síndrome do Paraíso", "A Teia Tholiana", "Elaan de Troyus" e "Todos os Nossos Ontens".

Brothers Johnny (Lynyrd Skynyrd) and Donnie (.38 Special) Van Zant have made a home for themselves at the intersection of Southern rock and contemporary country, all but blurring the boundary. Between the roaring road song that opens the album ("Train") and the weary road song that closes it ("Headed South"), Van Zant balance down-home party rockers such as "Goes Down Easy" and "It's Only Money" with the more serious balladry of "We Can't Do It Alone" (a spiritual sequel of sorts to "Get Right With the Man"), "That Scares Me," and "The Hardest Thing." Though the title song is little more than a banjo-laced string of country clichés and "These Colors Don't Run" is a patriotic bumper sticker, this solid sophomore effort should win the brotherly duo more country fans. --Don McLeese
